Review: Guerilla Marketing for the Home-Based Business by Jay Levinson and Seth Godin

Down and dirty: 4.5 out of 5

An absolute must-read for anyone starting a business or feeling lost in marketing their small company

Without a doubt Guerilla Marketing was a big inspiration for Into the Fray.  I’m a huge fan of Seth Godin’s and loved a lot of the ideas from this book.  If nothing else, even today, it’s a wonderful “Don’t Panic, You Can Do It” book for those of us (including myself) who are intimidated by the prospect of selling themselves or their services.

Guerilla Marketing deserves a 5 out of 5 but the book is dated and a lot of the current marketing techniques and products were just beginning to come out.  There’s literally a paragraph in the book that talks about how ‘not everyone has e-mail’ and how e-mails can only be sent in text-only formats.

Overall this is one of my favorite catch-all marketing books, which is amazing considering it was published in 1997.  While there are even more options and opportunities in our growing digital society, a great deal of the tips and advice in this book are still practical and worthwhile.  Everything is actionable today.

I highly recommend you read this even if you’re just looking for a new way to rev up your old marketing techniques.

As an aside, the book is constantly being revised and there are new variations you might want to check out!
