Review: Start With Why by Simon Sinek

Down and dirty: 4 out of 5

A powerful and compelling book that answers the all important why, re-emphasizes and then hits it all home with a hammer.

Full review: Simon’s example stories and explanations are wonderful to read.  Even though the audio clocks in at 7 hours, it doesn’t feel like an especially long book.  The chapters flow together well and demonstrate why the WHY is so utterly important in everything.

He goes on to demonstrate how losing or muddling the WHY, often at the loss of leadership’s direction, is the downfall of every company that makes it.  If you’re trying to find some focus in your life, career or business this is the book for you.

At the end of the book Simon devotes a very tiny section to the implementation of finding one’s WHY.  This is the single issue I have in that Simon doesn’t really offer much direction in seeking and refining anyone’s WHY.  Perhaps I am just dense in this regard, but while I am seeking my WHY, it doesn’t feel quite so obvious as he makes it out to be.
